Let the Failed DNA Hydrogen Hub Go and Turn the Page to a Cleaner Future
The proposed DNA hydrogen hub, which would have produced hydrogen from natural gas, has failed to secure federal funding and cannot deliver the promised economic or environmental benefits. Its business model relies on continued fossil fuel extraction and speculative carbon capture, which would increase air and climate pollution in Pennsylvania communities.
This failure is an opportunity for the Commonwealth to turn the page to a cleaner, more just energy future. Rather than propping up expensive, unproven hydrogen infrastructure, Pennsylvania should invest in proven renewable solutions like solar, wind, energy efficiency and battery storage. These technologies can reduce emissions, lower energy bills, and create thousands of family‑sustaining jobs without locking us into decades of methane extraction.
Policymakers must let the hydrogen hub go and prioritize policies that protect public health and support local economies. By embracing a truly clean energy agenda, Pennsylvania can lead the way toward a sustainable future instead of clinging to the false promises of fossil fuel interests.
