Five Years After Superstorm Sandy
In October 2012, Superstorm Sandy slammed into the East Coast, causing massive destruction, leaving millions without power and permanently altering coastal communities.
Five years later, towns in New Jersey and New York continue to rebuild but still face unresolved damage and increased flooding as sea levels rise. Many families have yet to return home, and the region's infrastructure remains vulnerable to future storms.
Sandy underscored the need for climate resilience, investment in coastal protection and infrastructure, and policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We must transition to clean energy, support affected communities and prepare for a future with stronger storms.
