With New Climate Report Issued, PennFuture Continues Legacy of Work
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s October 8 special report on 1.5°C warming stresses that we’re already feeling impacts of a 1°C rise and that limiting warming to 1.5°C is critical. The report calls for unprecedented transitions across all sectors, but for PennFuture the imperative to act on climate is not new; the organisation has operated under this urgency since it was founded 20 years ago.
PennFuture’s work has spanned decades of climate milestones—from Dr. James Hansen’s 1988 testimony through successive IPCC reports and the Paris Agreement—helping Pennsylvania set renewable energy goals, supporting alternative energy businesses and advocating for protections against natural gas expansion. Despite progress, the challenges and climate evidence have only grown, underscoring the need for continued leadership.
Looking ahead, PennFuture remains focused on climate action and encourages supporters to vote on November 6 with the environment in mind so that elected officials have the mandate to make Pennsylvania a climate leader.
