Giving Thanks for Open Spaces and Fighting for LWCF
As we gather for Thanksgiving, we're grateful for the parks, trails and public lands that enrich our lives. These open spaces provide places to hike, play and connect with family and friends, and they are preserved in part by the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF).
Unfortunately, Congress has not permanently reauthorized LWCF, putting future conservation projects at risk. The program uses revenues from offshore energy development to protect parks and recreation areas without cost to taxpayers, yet it is allowed to expire repeatedly. Without action, communities could lose funding for local parks and natural areas.
Join us in thanking the advocates who defend our open spaces and urge your elected officials to permanently reauthorize and fully fund the LWCF. Your voice can help ensure that future generations have access to the same natural treasures we enjoy today.
