Getting Buff- How Riparian Buffers Can Strengthen Community Resilience
Join PennFuture and the Monroe County Conservation District as we discuss how protecting riparian buffers—vegetated strips of land along waterways and waterbodies—through local ordinances can help prevent flooding and provide benefits to water quality, wildlife habitat, the local economy, and outdoor recreation.
We will cover existing statewide riparian buffer regulations and identify the gaps in that regulatory scheme that can, and should, be filled by local ordinances. We’ll end with a discussion of PennFuture’s new Riparian Buffer Model Ordinance and associated Guidebook that is aimed to help local municipalities “Get Buff.”
