On March 30, the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) closed its four‑month public comment period on proposed regulations for fracking and related activities. Over six public hearings the DRBC received 227 oral comments and more than 8,600 written comments, including petitions signed by tens of thousands of individuals in support of the proposed ban.

PennFuture strongly supports the proposed prohibition on fracking within the Delaware River Basin and urges the DRBC to strengthen regulations on water withdrawals for fracking outside the basin and the transport, storage, treatment and disposal of fracking wastewater within the basin. If the rules cannot be strengthened to protect the Delaware River’s water resources, these activities should not be allowed.
