PennFuture Opposes Any Repeal of the Clean Water Rule
On Sept. 27, 2017, PennFuture submitted public comments opposing the Trump administration’s proposal to repeal the federal Clean Water Rule. The organization warned that rolling back the rule would put Pennsylvania’s clean water, outdoor economy and safe drinking water for millions at risk.
The Clean Water Rule safeguards small headwater streams and wetlands that connect land and water. These sensitive waters trap and store nutrients, provide critical habitat and flood control, and support wildlife throughout the state. Eliminating these protections would jeopardize water quality and degrade ecosystems that Pennsylvanians depend on.
PennFuture notes that the majority of residents support strong clean water protections. The group urges citizens and policymakers to uphold the Clean Water Rule to ensure that watersheds, wildlife and communities across Pennsylvania remain healthy and resilient.
