Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection has created a Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit that gives communities a chance to improve water quality by reducing pollution from stormwater runoff.

MS4 towns and cities can lower pollution by installing rain gardens, rain barrels, infiltration trenches and other green infrastructure that allows water to soak into the ground instead of washing contaminants into streams.

Residents can attend public hearings and encourage local officials to adopt stormwater management plans and best practices to protect local waterways.
