PennFuture and Trout Unlimited recently co‑hosted a water advocacy workshop at Wildwood Park in Harrisburg. The training highlighted priority issues including the Farm Bill, Chesapeake Bay cleanup and stream redesignation. Participants split into two groups: Trout Unlimited staff showed attendees how to write op‑eds and letters to the editor about clean water issues, while PennFuture staff demonstrated how to arrange and conduct meetings with elected officials.

During the event, state representatives Keith Gillespie and David Zimmerman discussed why clean water matters to them and previewed environmental legislation on the horizon. Attendees practiced meeting with the representatives and used the skills learned in the sessions to advocate for the water issues most important to them. The workshop underscored that meeting with legislators and communicating with the media are powerful ways citizens can influence clean water policy.
