Dulcie F. Flaharty recently retired as Vice President of Community Partnerships at Natural Lands after a career dedicated to land conservation, including serving as executive director of the Montgomery County Lands Trust. She will receive the Woman of Lifetime Achievement Award at PennFuture's Celebrating Women in Conservation Awards.

Flaharty explains that no one is born a conservationist; passion for protecting and enhancing nature takes root at different times and often blends vocation and avocation. Her own journey emerged unexpectedly and led her to champion land protection in Southeast Pennsylvania.

She notes that accepting the Lifetime Achievement Award from PennFuture is one of many gratifying experiences on her journey. Her strategic plan is written in pencil, she says, because her love of conservation has taken her in many directions.
