How Pending Federal Appropriations Might Affect Chesapeake Bay Watershed
Congressional appropriations decisions will determine whether the Chesapeake Bay restoration continues on its successful path or stalls. As lawmakers debate federal budget bills, programs that fund the Chesapeake Bay Program, agricultural conservation and stormwater controls are on the chopping block. Cuts could slow nutrient and sediment reductions and undermine the cleanup commitments made by states and communities. PennFuture urges our supporters to speak out for full funding of the EPA’s Chesapeake Bay Program, conservation practices for farmers and municipal grants that reduce pollution. Investing in clean water now will protect the Bay and the livelihoods it supports.
