PennFuture Joins Partners to Release Statement Ahead of Trump's PA Visit

PHILADELPHIA, PA (December 14, 2016) —In response to last week’s nomination of Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt as EPA Administrator and ahead of President-elect Donald Trump's visit to Hershey, Pa., PennFuture, Clean Air Council, and Moms Clean Air Force released the following statement:

Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt’s nomination for EPA Administrator demonstrates that the incoming Trump Administration is committed to protecting the fossil fuel industry’s agenda, not public health or the environment. Pruitt’s record on environmental issues is dangerous for Pennsylvanians and should alarm anyone concerned about clean air, clean water, or public health.

Despite scientific consensus, Pruitt has called climate change ‘speculative guess work’ and has accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from Big Oil and Big Coal. And he has shown time and again he is willing to rig the system in favor of his dirty energy donors. We can fully expect Pruitt to undo the progress we have made to implement key safeguards that protect our public health and our environment from the threats of climate change and air pollution.

The people of the United States deserve better. We strongly believe every EPA Administrator should be guided by science, protect our environmental laws, and place public health ahead of special interests. Should Pruitt be confirmed, the EPA’s direction will be dictated by the dirty energy industry’s agenda, not by science-based safeguards that protect public health and the environment. We urge the Senate to reject President-elect Trump’s nomination.

PennFuture is leading the transition to a clean energy economy in Pennsylvania and beyond. We are protecting our air, water and land, and empowering citizens to build sustainable communities for future generations. For more information, visit www.pennfuture.org.

Clean Air Council is dedicated to protecting and defending everyone’s right to breathe clean air, working through a broad array of related sustainability and public health initiatives, using public education, community action, government oversight, and enforcement of environmental laws.
