New PennFuture Initiative Encourages Families to “Take the Power Back,” Make the Switch to a Clean Energy Supplier

(Feb. 15, 2018) HARRISBURG, Pa. – PennFuture launched the “Take the Power Back” initiative this week, a new campaign giving high school and college aged students the tools they need to start conversations with their parents and caregivers about switching to a clean energy supplier for electricity.

The goal is to get as many families across the state as possible to visit www.papowerswitch.com and take the steps to switch to a clean energy provider for electric service in their homes. The Take the Power Back initiative provides students and families with a digital kit that includes conversation starters, along with a step-by-step guide for parents to use after they visit papowerswitch.com to help them as they choose a clean energy provider.

The kit also includes a social media graphic to share with friends, and an email header graphic to use while sending messages to spread the word. The digital kit and more information can be found at www.pennfuture.org/takethepowerback

“While installing solar panels on their homes may not be an immediate option for many families, making the switch to an electricity provider that supplies 100 percent clean energy is easily in their grasp and allows Pennsylvania households to reduce their carbon footprint today,” said PennFuture’s Energy Center Director Rob Altenburg.

Citizens across the state can get involved in a number of ways:
  • Switch to clean energy as a family activity using the hashtag #TakeThePowerBack and #CleanEnergy so we can share their success.
  • Become a partner and help PennFuture spread the word at your high school or college campus. Contact rex@pennfuture.org to get involved.
  • Host a PennFuture speaker at your next community meeting to hear more about the effort and to educate your friends, neighbors and family on the easy steps you can take to switch to clean energy.
Visiting www.papowerswitch.com and switching to a clean energy supplier is the easiest way citizens can take a stand against climate change and make a difference. In many cases, energy costs will barely change as a result. For more information, visit www.pennfuture.org/takethepowerback.
