FirstEnergy/Allegheny Energy Merger

Developments:

Success!
PennFuture's intervention helped procure a multi-party settlement that required the companies to provide $1 million of funding for solar projects to the Pennsylvania Sunshine Solar Program and another $1 million of funding for energy efficiency projects to the Keystone HELP program, as well as increased funding for energy conservation programs geared towards low-income customers and increased funding for the West Penn Power Sustainable Energy Fund. The settlement agreement also obligated the companies to purchase an increased percentage of their solar energy shares under Pennsylvania's Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards act from long-term contracts, to help support the development of the solar industry.

PennFuture Atty. Charles McPhedran also acted as counsel in this matter.
